Don't Waste Your Money on Skincare Products

Used to be a skincare fanatic, now I wish I haven’t spent that much on skincare products over the past 8 years. Meanwhile, I'm kinda glad that I did. This journey made me learn the lesson in a very hard way, which leaves no room for "what if", AKA "regret".

Today’s topic is on skincare products: does it really worth the price?

I started using skincare produces when I was 23-year-old. If everything I used delivered the results as the ads promised, I would look 12-year-old today.

If you want to hear the truth, read on. I will be brutally honest with you, no BullSh**t.

After years of researches, relentless attempts and trials and errors, my personal advice for a healthy skincare routine is: don't waste your money on these trendy skincare products. Instead, try traditional beauty remedies such as jojoba oil, rosehip seed oil, rice flour mask, etc. They deliver the result just as good as those tip top skincare products on the market, if not better.

It's true that beautiful skin doesn't just happen: it takes discipline to eat a healthy diet, drink enough water, exercise regularly and rest well at night. These are essentials to a healthy and glow looking skin without makeup on.

More often than not, skincare companies give us hope by promising results, but there is no one size fits all. Be mindful that some ingredients are chemical compounds that are unstable in the sunlight and can cause all stages irritation in the deep layers of your skin.

Skincare companies certainly have realized such issue by introducing 100% nature ingredient products. There are increasing number of beauty products going "green". Controversially, such has caused another problem. A 100% nature product label has many implication, which include 100% citrus oil that is not meant for the face. Due to loopholes in FDA's regulation, now companies can include certain preventatives but still call it a 100% nature ingredient. Oh bummer!

Sad but true, beauty products like these are pretty much the same: neither price nor brand is an accurate indicator of how efficient a product is. You could be paying a higher price for a same product quality at a local drug store. It's all about 'perceived value', created through packing, ads, smart wording, celebrities' endorsement, and personal insecurities.

Be wary of 'miracle' products that deliver 'instant results": this can be a red flag that leads to more severe skin issues later on.

Most people desire to look younger than their ages. What makes one look aged? Skin condition is one. Little do we know, the tired and saggy look caused by gravitation of facial fat and weakening of facial muscle over time is what makes us look 'aged'. Instead of focusing too much on your skin (a surface layer), try to work the underneath muscle to tone up your overall facial appearance. Have you thought about researching facial massage/ exercise tips on YouTube and implement on a regularly basis?

**There are many opinions on what facial massage being effective. Personally, I trust the channel by Koko Hayashi

Skincare routine is marketed to self-care. Don't buy it just yet. If you fully understand my message above and implement it correctly, soon after, you will realize all the money you splurged over skincare over X amount of years is a waste and you've been lied to by the beauty industry.

They are all marketing gimmicks. It's kinda wired to hear from a social media marketing freelancer like myself. Because of this controversy, you can certainly trust my words about skincare products.

I am currently 32-year-old and have beautiful healthy-looking skin. I’m obsessed with my natural beauty and barely wear any makeup (beside on my wedding day, lol). My secret is to stay away from the bandwagon but to stick with traditional beauty tips skincare wise: if they have worked for millions of people in the past few hundreds year, there is a high chance the same technique would work for population of this century. It’s primary because these methods has been examined over an extended period of time, and the current products haven’t gone through the same testing.

Share if you agree! Sharing is caring 😘
