Your Life is Perfect Enough

“If I could be as rich as Bill Gate, as talent as Mark Zuckerberg, as ageless and beautiful as Miranda Kerr, and if I can also have a current self-driving car from Elon Musk, my life will be PERFECT!”
It’s OK to have the “If” fantasy, but remember, Grass is always greener on the other side.
Like all of you, I have my ‘if’ moments. “If my skin can go back to when I was 20; if I can speak English just like a local Canadian, my life will be perfect.”
I used to feel life is not perfect without have perfect skin or speaking like a Canadian.
My perception of perfect life had a big shift on Canada Day. My life finally became perfect ever since I met two people at Fort Calgary and East Village.
On July 1st, I went to Fort Calgary to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday. Going through exhibitions and reading about the fort Calgary’s history, I was getting hungry. After coming back from a food truck with a nutella banana waffle snack, I sat in an arbor and enjoyed my treat, as I hadn’t had cheat food for quite a while. Before I took the first bite, an old lady sitting on a wheelchair entered my sight. She was so old and weak that she couldn’t walk on her own without her daughter pulling her on a wheelchair.
“I don’t need a wheelchair or help from anyone to move around.” I thought to myself.

After the snack, I kept walking down the East Village and passed a mentally disabled old man with no legs. He strolled down the street with aid of automated wheelchair. He strolled down the street with being noticed.
“I’m mentally normal and I have both legs.” I thought to myself.
After meeting people who were at less fortunate positions than mine, my “troubles” vanished with the wind.
From then on, I learned to appreciate what I have: “Glowing and healthy skin, beautiful face, slim and tall figure, intelligent and dedication, creativity on writing, persistence on learning, mentally normally, physically intact and have basic for living.”

Remember, there are so many people living in the war zone who can’t even enjoy the basics of living. Let alone have good skincare or leaning another foreign language.
How’s their life over there?
Our life here is perfect enough.
There are always things we don’t have and wish to have. Meanwhile, there are people who don’t have what we’ve already had.
At minimum, we enjoy freedom in this country and most of us have the basics of living.
Be grateful of what you’ve got. Let go of what you can’t have. Life is not about struggling for what you don’t or can’t have, but to enjoy what you’ve already got.
