You Are Good Enough for Yourself

No one is perfect. We are all imperfectly perfect.

Last Sunday, I met a Brazilian lady at an English and Portuguese Meetup Group. She came to Canada in October last year and had been learning English since then.

“My English is not good.” She said to me during our conversation.

“Your speak really well.” I told her.

She looked at me in disbelief, “I don’t think so. I think your English is better than mine.”

“Thank you.” I replied, “But I've lived in Canada for nine years. Tell you what, I barely spoke English during my first year here!"

“Never compare yourself with others. You are good enough for yourself. That’s what matters.” I added.

Before taking off, I shared with her about some of my tips that helped improve spoken English. One thing I was certain: she had a strong desire to do well in this country.

Here is the message:

You are good enough for yourself. And that’s what matters. You don’t need to compare yourself with others at all.

Often times, we think we are just not good enough: not good-looking enough, not smart enough, don't have enough experience or skills to succeed in whatever we want to.

Everyday, we think we haven't done enough: not enough work or study, not enough workout, not enough networking or writing.

As a result, we are unhappy as if we achieve nothing at all. In reality, we are good enough but too hard on ourselves. Whatever you've done today, let it be enough.

There is nothing called ‘The Best’, ‘The Worse’ or The Superior'. We are so caught up in these terms is because we set ourselves up for comparision.

Beside comparison, we care way too much about what others think of us. Don't fret if others feel you are not good enough for whatever you are involved with. You know what, everyone has his or her unique values.

You can’t control what others think of you, but you have control of how you react to it. In return, you can think positively about yourself. What matters is what you think you are capable of. The moment when you allow others words or thoughts dictate what you can do, you give up the control to them. Remember, you are your own judge: only you have the say of what you can or can not.

In order to continue growing, we need to set aside comparison and stop worrying about what others' opinions on us. Your innermost affect how your entire your body function. When a negative thought flash through your brain, it signals your cells so your body will act negatively. That's why it's hard to succeed with negative thinking.

The imperative is to change the way we think. When we think we are good enough, have done enough, we send positive affirmation to the brains. Thus, it will result in positive actions from the body.

Stop comparing yourself with others and quit thinking negatively. Because

comparisons and negative thoughts are noises and distractions that lead you to nowhere. We need focus.

Instead, focus on self-improvement. One percent per day might not seem much it adds up over a month and in a year.

Write down what you've done and your feelings everyday. it will help you

to conceptualize how much you’ve grown in a week, a month, and a year.

Be the best version of yourself. Love yourself for the way you are.

You will be amazed how wonderful you are.
